This Thursday, September 10, Andrea Chamorro will deliver the talk "Dancing, Listening, Repairing: Steps Toward an Ecology of Care" at the Study Group Symposium: Music and Dance in Latin America and the Caribbean (ICTMD LAT CAR).

The principal researcher at CMUS writes about it: "In this talk, I understand dances as ecological-cultural practices that produce reciprocal affectations with other beings and environments, which allows for shifting attention away from their socio-symbolic representations and meanings and toward their sensory manifestations and experiences (Ingold 2015). Specifically, drawing on ethnographic research on rural and urban Andean dances in the regions of Arica and Parinacota, and Antofagasta (northern Chile), during which rural community members and urban residents recreate bonds of communality between humans and nonhumans, I approach not only the aesthetic experiences (sensu aesthesis) of Andean dancers for whom dancing produces sensory couplings and assemblages between their bodies and environments (Feld 2013; Martínez 2014), but also the ways in which dancing constitutes an embodied response to the rhythms, crises, and material transformations of environments."
