Christian Spencer publishes collaborative chapter in the book Latin American Communication Theories

CMUS Director Christian Spencer has published a collaborative chapter in the book Latin American Communication Theories, together with Chiara Sáez and Antonieta Vera.
Titled "The Interpellative Nature of Popular Culture", "The text we have selected for this chapter is the introduction to the work Comunicación y cultura popular en América Latina: Nuevas perspectivas en tiempos de crisis (Communication and Popular Culture in Latin America: New Perspectives in Times of Crisis), which compiles some of the main contributions from the conference “Communication and Popular Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean” that the editors organized in September 2019 at the University of Chile. In this text, Sáez, Spencer, and Vera advocate for the recovery of the concept of popular culture to renew it theoretically in light of the contemporary Latin American landscape".
Christian Spencer, Chiara Sáez, and Antonieta Vera previously worked together on the Fondecyt project “Towards a Sociology of Absent Popular Culture: Corporeality, Representation, and Mediatization of ‘Repressed Popular Culture’ and ‘Unrepresented Popular Culture’ in Santiago de Chile (1810-1925)” between 2016 and 2019.
