This Thursday, September 10, Ignacio Soto will deliver the talk Self-managed musical scenes: circulation, mediation, and territoriality in the popular music of southern Chile at the Study Group Symposium: Music and Dance in Latin America and the Caribbean (ICTMD LAT CAR).

CMUS's principal researcher has written the following for his presentation: "This paper examines the emerging mechanisms of organization and governance among musical groups located in the cities of Temuco, Valdivia, Osorno, Castro, Coyhaique, and Punta Arenas, with the aim of understanding how self-managed local scenes are articulated in contexts of cultural periphery. Based on the analysis of in-depth interviews, field notes, and audiovisual documents, we identify a process we call dual organization: the formation of collectives with a simultaneous artistic and managerial function, together with the construction of their own spaces for circulation."
