Noriko Manabe in Chile

Between November 21 and 24, we were visited by Noriko Manebe, professor at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in the United States, who was invited in connection with Eileen Karmy's Fondecyt project, "Informal Music Education in Greater Valparaíso, 1890-1930: Organizations, Practices, Networks, and Materials."

During these three days, the ethnomusicologist gave two talks addressing music and its political meanings through intertextual analysis. She also led a research workshop in which attendees were able to work on the analysis of various repertoires and political songs with her feedback. These activities were supported by the UPLA Faculty of Art, the Millennium Nucleus in Musical and Sound Cultures (CMUS), and the Anillo Música y Patrimonio (Animupa).
