Tomás Peters on the podcast Hablemos de Arte

Tomás Peters was interviewed on the podcast Hablemos de Arte, hosted by José Tomás Fontecilla and Sofía Tupper. In the episode titled "Budget Cuts: Is Culture Under Threat?", they discussed the role culture should play in a democratic society, analyzed examples of cultural policies in other countries, and the challenges these face in Chile—not only under the current government, but historically as well.
Among other topics, the researcher stated: "When I saw the 10% cut from this government, I found it not only concerning, but I thought that perhaps for the first time a very explicit cultural policy is being established by it. Reducing the budget isn't simply taking money away, so to speak, from artists—it's sending a signal to society that 'we're not so interested in fostering the artistic space, but rather what we want is a different cultural policy.' What cultural policy do they want to pursue? Reinforcing certain forms of social organization that are probably not concentrated in the ministry, but rather are found in other areas."
